About our service
We hold confidential debt advice sessions on a Thursday morning at St Andrew’s Church Centre in Kimbolton Road, Bedford MK40 2PF and at other times by arrangement. We only see clients living in the Bedford Borough area.
To make an appointment, please ring us on 07599618602 or email us at email@example.com
We will send you confirmation of your appointment and a list of the paperwork for you to bring to your first appointment. You are welcome to bring a friend or relative with you. If you have a problem with English, please bring someone to interpret for you.
Your first appointment may last up to an hour and there will usually be further appointments, maybe over several months, depending on your individual problems.
Your adviser will explain to you the options you have and will help you decide what best suits you. Once we have sorted your immediate problems we can also help you with budgeting to try and help you not falling into debt again.
Our trained debt advisers will not judge you; they will listen to you and offer you solutions. You are free to withdraw from the service at any time but we would like to know if you do decide not to continue with your appointments.
All our advisers are volunteers and the service is affiliated to Community Money Advice (CMA) (communitymoneyadvice.com), which has set up debt advice centres across the country and which provides our training and other support.
We are members of Advice UK and are registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (no 618804) for Debt Adjusting/Counselling. We have professional indemnity insurance
Although we are part of St Andrew’s Church, people of all faiths and none are equally welcome. Not all our volunteers attend a church.
If you are not happy with our service or the way you have been treated, we have a written complaints procedure. If we cannot resolve your concerns, we will ask someone independent of the service to investigate.
We need your help
We welcome new volunteers to help us to run our service. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and most are not members of St Andrew’s Church; some come from other churches and some from no church at all.
Advisers: help the clients with their debt and money problems. New advisers are fully trained to be debt advisers, so previous experience is not necessary. Advisers are asked to work two mornings a month and also to do some work at home for their clients, although we have some administrative help with the more routine follow –up work.
Welcomers: meet the clients on arrival and put them at their ease. They will also do administrative tasks such as photocopying for the advisers. Welcomers are asked to work one or two mornings a month.
Manager and Administrator: support the advisers, and welcomers by making appointments , dealing with correspondence, including some of the routine work following a client meeting and preparing rotas and meetings. The Manager is an ex-officio member of the Management Group (see below).
The Management Group: Money Advice at St Andrew’s has its own management group with a chairman and treasurer, and several other members. We welcome new members who would be interested in overseeing the service. The Management group meets four times a year.
At present, we are very fortunate that the running costs of the service are met fully by St Andrew’s Church and the Hall Trust.
If you are interested in any of these roles, please call the Money Advice mobile phone ~ 07599 618602 ~ to register your interest.
