As is traditional, the first meeting of the new PCC was preceded by sharing communion in the chapel.  Following introductions and welcome to new members,  there was business to complete following the APCM in formally electing church wardens and other officials – including our new PCC secretary Dermot Collins.

After these administrative tasks were complete we had a discussion about the purpose of the PCC, our suggestions being (mostly) similar to the official description shared by Lucy – phew!

We then turned our attention to the business to be discussed in this meeting.

  1. We heard about the progress in recruiting a new Youth Minister and how the input of our young people had been essential to the develop the person/job specification for this role.  Interviews will be held in July and young people will also be involved in this stage.

  2. We considered and approved the proposal to pause Sunday evening prayer, in recognition of reduction in the ministry team and low numbers attending this service.

  3. The MOT representatives described progress in selecting a new international charity and how the congregation would be involved in this.  Thanks and appreciation were expressed regarding the inspiring talks given by Imogen from Home for Good in recent services.

  4. The outcome of the Safeguarding focus groups was discussed and Jo Newton, parish safeguarding officer, emphasised what a positive experience it had been.  The resulting actions have been added to the Mission Action Plan and the first is already completed!

  5. The process for deciding the future of the house at St Minver Rd, which belongs to St Andrews, was agreed by the PCC.  As charity trustees, the PCC have the responsibility to ensure that our assets are managed responsibly and to benefit the aims of St Andrews.  Following a professional survey and valuations, and discussions with the CCMC and Finance committees regarding likely future maintenance and financial scenarios, proposals for the property will be presented to the PCC to make a decision.

  6. Reports from the Diocesan and Deanery Synods were received and the role of these groups as communication channels through the levels of the Church of England and in providing forums for discussion and mutual support between local churches were explained by members of those groups.

Congratulations to the new PCC members  - you made it through your first meeting!
